2005 to 2006 - The changing face of SALAM Children's Home

When the new dormitory's were constructed to replace the cramped and leaky boys dormitory's we decided that the girls would inherit the new facilities.

The reshuffle allowed us to house both boys and girls in distinctly separate areas and provide Pak Puta,Ibu Yuni and family a separate living quarters.

Before we moved the boys into the girls' facilities we gave the boys' dorms a much needed renovation which you can see left.

Direct Aid also funded the replacement of the children's cupboards. The originals had all but fallen apart and had been repaired many times. Besides their beds this is all the personal space the children have.

The new girls' dormitories are fantastic.  Funds were donated by The Peace Stone  and The Hosanna Foundations.  We now have the physical space to accept more young girls, maybe up to another 20. Before we can do this we need to be able to meet our current financial obligations. We need to raise another 15 child unit costs before we can consider this further.

This was the area  that we wanted to convert to a flat play area.

.

This is what we got!

Desmond James and friends raised funds and oversaw construction of this fantastic multi court. What can we say? This is way beyond what we were hoping for. Many thanks to Desmond James and to those who supported him financially on this project.
